Markus, age 26, is tall in stature, at 6’ 3” and 215 pound… with sandy brown hair and eerie eyes of green. He usually wears a denim green shirt and a brown hip-length leather coat, with brown trousers. Underneath the coat are 2 trusted twin 1854 Colt Dragoon 44s. Inside the shoulder holsters are a matching pair of ivory handled, 1849, Colt Baby Dragoons, five-shot, .31-caliber revolvers, with four-inch barrels, six-shot cylinders, and equipped with loading levers.
PERSONALITY;
Markus is a rugged individualist, whose vigilantism, alternately offers blood lust while pointing out the emotional vulnerabilities of his remorseless killing machine…He unconsciously allows his friends to gradually chip away at his stolid, trauma-borne emotionless personality.
Markus somehow keeps his moral compass true, and reserves his wrath for those who intend to harm him or the innocents he comes upon in his travels. Forged in a confusing and violent time, Markus does not live a double life, nor get emotionally involved with others. He knows that his misfortune, anger, and reputation have made him a man alone… simply a man trying to survive. Cursed by his own superior skill, Markus fights to live and lives to fight another day.
"If things look bad and it looks like you’re not going to make it, then you gotta get mean, I mean plumb mad-dog mean.
Cause if you lose your head and give up, then you neither live nor win. That’s just the way it is."
HISTORY;
Born July 17th, 1844 in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, in America, to a large family of poor farmers on the verge of bankruptcy. His father, Tom Blaine, unable to financially keep the family farm, went to work in the Bechtler gold coin mint, while Markus’ brothers worked the farm.
One night in 1850, when Markus (age 6)’s father was walking home from work, he was arrested and later hung for stealing the valuable gold pieces from the mint. Two of Markus’ four older brothers were also arrested. One was hung two days after his father, and the second was shot in the back attempting to escape. The rich landowner soon evicted his mother, Sarah, and two remaining brothers, Andrew and Joshua.
Out of money, shamed, and homeless, the two brothers took to stealing horses and cattle. The family made its way thru Tennessee and on into the Arkansas territory. They soon landed jobs as tax collectors for the new state in Little Rock. Life was not easy for Lil Markus Blaine (age 8), his mother dying in 1852 from a heart condition early in the year and for their stealing the taxes they collected, the two brothers were hung in Fort Smith in December of ‘52. For the next two years, Markus (age 8-10, in 1852-54) lived as a street urchin in Little Rock performing odd jobs. But soon enough, slavery soon eliminated the odd jobs a poor person could do.
In 1855, hiding on a wagon train, the trails west soon led Markus to California, which had been freed from the Mexicans in the War. Markus, now age 12, worked for a man in Sutter’s Fort. The gold strike several years earlier, in 1849, brought in every form of person imaginable – good and bad – Markus was introduced to them all.
In the years 1856 to 1862 (ages 12-18), from a kitchen boy to a railroad hand, prospector, land agent, cattle-hand, stage coach guard, and deputy sheriff, Markus worked them all. And meanwhile, he learned to ride better, shoot straighter, track, live on the trail, and make quick sound decisions in the toughest of situations.
By 1863, the War Between the States was in full swing, and affecting the western states such as California. Markus did not feel obligated to fight for, or against, something he had no interest in, especially back East… A man from London, recruited Markus, now age 19 as a soldier, offering him a substantial amount of money. He knew Americans were excellent fighters that did not abide by English rules of war… and in the coming war with Russia, Great Britain would need an edge. Several men, of various origins, around the country recruited young American men, trained them in the ways of the mercenary and sold the units to Great Britain. It was on the northern coasts of the Black Sea that Markus learned what he needed to survive under the direst of circumstances. He was released from service of the Queen in late 1866.
For the next 20 months or so, Markus travelled around the south, seeing the destruction of the war. He revisited his home in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, but was shunned by the people who dishonored his family. Angered by the past and present, Markus and some compatriots robbed the Bechtler gold coin mint… feeling they owned him.
Crossing Tennessee and Arkansas, he disappeared into the Indian Territory. Emerging from the northern Indian Territory during the winter of ’69 and heading south for Texas.
Markus, now age 26, soon reappeared in El Paso… heading southeastward… Sitting atop a Dapple Grey, Arabian-Appaloosa cross gelding, he now looks down on the town of Del Fuego.
